Police in Pittsburgh are investigating a shooting that killed a 16-year-old Oliver High School student.

At a news conference, police said the victim, Jonathan Touchstone, was walking up Hazelton Avenue in the city's Perry Hilltop neighborhood at about 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Police said Touchstone was with a friend when the shooter came up and shot him in the hand, chest and head. When he was found, police said they also found 30 bags of heroin at the scene.

"We have not yet determined a motive. However, we believe that the homicide was drug-related. And possibly related to illegal drug sales in the area as numerous stamp bags of heroin were recovered near the crime scene," said Commander Thomas Stangrecki of the Pittsburgh Police.

Pittsburgh Public Schools spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said Touchstone was in 10th grade at Oliver High School and was not in school today.

Pugh also said students and staff at McNaughter school on Maple Street heard the gunfire. She said the school was locked down and students were dismissed early so the buses could reroute around the shooting scene.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call homicide detectives at 412-323-7161.
