Watching For Sasquatch In Westmoreland County This Weekend

Sasquatch has managed to dodge hunters for decades. But this weekend, researchers from all over the state are coming to Jeannette for a Big Foot convention.

Set up for the conference is under way and it's no small task. More than 300 people are registered and hundreds more are expected to walk in on Saturday to meet people like Billy Willard.

Willard is crazy -- about Big Foot that is. He hosts Sasquatch Watch on blogtalkradio.com and he's brought plenty of memorabilia to show to fellow enthusiasts.

"There's a lot of eye witnesses just too many to dismiss. My own son has had a sighting of his own, near Richmond, Virginia. I have no reason to doubt it," Willard said.

Organizer Eric Altman of the Pennsylvania Big Foot Society says you don't have to see to believe.

"I've never seen the creature. I've had some things circle in the woods, heard some things screaming, lots of very usual footprints…Definitely, there is something out there," Altman said.

Local residents report seeing Big Foot in North Park in Allegheny County, Derry Township in Westmoreland and Rural Valley in Armstrong.

Researchers even brought plaster castings of footprints to prove it. Which, by the way, you can take home as a souvenir for a small fee.

Organizers say the conference is all in good fun and they don't expect everyone to believe them. But they'd love the chance to try to convince the skeptical.

Those interested can come to Pitzer's Townhouse Restaurant at 101 South Fifth Street in Jeanette. The hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and tickets are $10 at the door.
