PITTSBURGH -- A man was shot to death in Homewood late Wednesday night, prompting a Pittsburgh police search and a SWAT team situation, but the shooter is still at large.Deon Smith, 22, was shot in the back while sitting in front of his home in the 800 block of North Braddock Avenue at about 10:25 p.m., police said.A young black male wearing a light-colored shirt, shorts and a safari-style hat approached the building and shot Smith, who was with a group of friends, police said.One witness told WTAE Channel 4 Action News that as many as six shots were heard. Victory Security guards who were driving through the area followed the shooter as he ran away.SWAT team officers surrounded an abandoned apartment building in the 7500 block of Bennett Street where they believed the shooter may have fled, but there was no sign of him. Two people who were inside the building were questioned and released.Police are still searching for the gunman and have not discussed a motive for the shooting.
