McCain Makes Contradiction About Black & Gold

Senator Says He Recited Steelers' Defensive Line While In Captivity

An apparent contradiction about the Black and Gold from Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain has been revealed.

McCain recently told a local television reporter that as a prisoner of war in Vietnam he recited the Steelers' defensive line when pressured to name the men in his squadron.

McCain was captured after his plane was shot down in the fall of 1967.

In his autobiography "Faith of My Fathers," the Arizona senator claimed he gave the names of the Green Bay Packers' offensive line. When his book was made into a cable TV movie in 2005, McCain talked about the pivotal interrogation scene in the movie.

"That was the starting lineup of the Green Bay Packers, the first Super Bowl champions," said McCain. "But, uh, it was the best I could think of that at the time."

COMMITMENT 2008
McCain's national campaign has yet to respond to questions from Channel 4 Action News about the apparent contradiction.

The senator's Pennsylvania campaign said it was an honest mistake.
