The Port Authority’s tunnel boring machine is expected to break through into downtown Pittsburgh some time this week.

The Port Authority said a lot of factors will determine how quickly the machine will break through on Stanwix Street.

The boring tunnel machine is creating two tunnels under the Allegheny River for the $435 million North Shore Connector Project.

The Port Authority plans to set up a large-screen TV near where the machine will break through so everyone can monitor the progress. The Port Authority also set up a Web Site to monitor the tunnel boring progress, boretotheshore.com.
