Instead of setting off fireworks, visitors to the temporary Flight 93 memorial in Stoneycreek Township , Somerset County, paid their respects on the Fourth of July.

"A lot of people have made a lot of sacrifices for us to enjoy our lifestyles," said Craig Schoeberle, who traveled from Illinois with his children.

John Peterson, who spent six years in the military, finds it more fitting to spend the holiday with his children, remembering those who died on board the hijacked plane on Sept. 11, 2001.

"It's rather admirable knowing the story and sharing it with them, this sacrifice these people made," he said.

"A lot of men and women died for us to be able to enjoy holidays like this -- these people included," said Carl Hershner, of York, Pa.

"Everybody working together, everybody staying together. When something like this happens, everybody pulls together. You know, we're one nation," said Greg Becker, of Ohio.

This is the last Independence Day that people will be able to visit the memorial at its current location.

Beginning next week, all of the artifacts will be moved across the road because the National Park Service and the land's owner were unable to reach a deal to keep the memorial where it is.
