Plan Hammered Out To Avoid Foreclosures

PITTSBURGH -- Allegheny County officials and advocates are trying to help residents avoid foreclosure.As many as 500 Pennsylvania families lose their home to foreclosure every month, and the numbers are rising.County Sheriff William Mullen and members of the advocacy group Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) gathered in Lawrenceville Wednesday night to propose a plan to help.
At the meeting at the Teamsters Hall on Butler Street, the sheriff suggested homeowners who are served with a foreclosure notice meet with a lender and a borrower for mediation.Together, the group would try to hammer out a plan to avoid foreclosure. A county judge still needs to approve the plan.
