The big tunnel boring machine being used in the North Shore connector project has cleared the Allegheny River.

Once the machine hits the hole dug near Stanwix Street, crews will turn the machine around and head back the other way, drilling a second hole to the North Shore.

The $435 million project is expected to be complete in 2011.
