The U.S. Post Office in Springdale was renamed Tuesday morning in honor of Rachel Carson, who would have turned 101 today.

Carson is known for her work as an author, environmentalist and marine biologist. She was born in Springdale in 1907 and died in 1964.

In addition to her writing, Carson worked for the government.

She also testified before Congress in 1963, calling for better policies to protect public health and the environment.
