Baby Grizzly Bear Taken From Jefferson Hills Man's Home

Authorities in Jefferson Hills seized a Syrian grizzly bear on Friday from the home of a man who planned to raise it until it hit 100 pounds.

David Linsen said he bought the bear, named Bear, about two months ago in Ohio and planned to sell it after raising it briefly at his Gill Hall Road home.

"She won't leave me," said Linsen. "She won't go anywhere I don’t go. She just follows me. She thought I was her mother. I had her since she was a wee little baby. She wouldn’t go anywhere without me."

The Pennsylvania Game Commission said Linsen needed a permit to do so, and he did not have one.

Neighbors said they were worried since Linsen lives so close to Gill Hall Elementary School.

"I have dogs that they know the area of the yard, but sometimes go past it," said neighbor Jayme Clark. "I don’t want them getting eaten by a grizzly bear."

Right now, Linsen said he is trying to file the correct paperwork to get the 45-pound bear back, but there is no word on when or if that would happen.
