Woman Struck, Killed By Train In West Newton

A woman was struck and killed by a train on Monday in West Newton, Westmoreland County.

According to 911, the accident happened at about 10 a.m. near Riverside Drive.

Deputy Coroner Gerry Fritz said Catherine Louise Keck, 66, successfully crossed the tracks. She was then walking along the tracks near her home when a handrail on a passing CSX Corp. locomotive hit her in the back of the head.

A witness said Fritz had come out of a drug store and appeared to be walking home when she was hit.
