PITTSBURGH -- Two peregrine falcon chicks that hatched April 20 on the 37th floor of the Gulf Tower downtown were caught up and banded on Monday morning.
Live Nest Camera: Check out the Gulf Tower's FalconCamBands were placed on the chicks' legs, making it possible for the National Aviary to identify and track them in the future.
"We will be following these birds and the ones at the Cathedral of Learning for weeks and be able to watch their first flight, as they grow up, get more fully feathered," said Dr. Todd Katzner of thr Aviary.
The chicks, one male and one female, were also be given a veterinary exam prior to release back to their nest and their parents, Louie and Tasha 2.
"They're just old enough where the bones are fully formed, so we can put a band on and know it's the right size for the rest of their lives," said Katzner, of the aviary. "But they're not able to fly at this stage, so they're not going to hurt themselves trying to jump out of a nest."
