PITTSBURGH -- Authorities are investigating after several BBs struck three trolley cars in Beechview on Thursday.Port Authority representative David Whipkey said none of the pellets penetrated windows of the cars, which were traveling outbound near the Shira station in the 1900 block of Broadway Avenue. However, Whipkey said, the BBs did cause some of the cars' glass to crack.
Port Authority rail car operator Joe Brandtner said he heard on the service radio that one trolley was hit shortly after noon. Brandtner said his trolley was hit about 30 minutes later."I couldn't tell if the passenger was making the noise, so I pulled over at the next stop," he said. "I couldn't see it."One witness said he saw children in the area with a BB gun."I saw kids shooting," said Alex Karas. "It looked like a handgun, but it wasn't. It was clearly a pellet gun, and they (were) shooting, I guess at a trash can down there. I really didn't get a chance to see." No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
