PITTSBURGH -- The bankrupt South Side sports bar once co-owned by Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward is now totally under Ward's ownership.Ward was the only bidder on the Locker Room Bar and Grille at an auction in federal bankruptcy court on Friday morning. A judge approved Ward's $900,000 bid.Along with the property on East Carson Street, the auction included the bar's liquor license and all of its alcohol, furniture, autographed jerseys, televisions and equipment.
Ward has not said what his plans are, but as the new owner of the Locker Room, he would not have to deal with the legal battles that drove it into bankruptcy."In all respects, it would be a fresh start for the business," said bankruptcy attorney Guy Fustine.A legal battle began in September when co-owner Nicholas Lettieri filed a lawsuit accusing Ward and a third owner, Kimberly Pitts, of draining money from company accounts.Ward and Pitts denied any wrongdoing. In December, they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on behalf of the business.
