A public meeting will be held Monday to consider plans for a Market Square makeover that the city hopes will attract more visitors and businesses to its downtown gathering spot.

Public comments will be accepted at the meeting, scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Harris Theater on Liberty Avenue downtown. Comments can also be e-mailed to MarketSquare@DowntownPittsburgh.com until 5 p.m. on May 15.

There are three possible designs that would include more restaurants, shops, green space and a plan to re-create storefronts of years past.

Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said he hopes to begin construction by fall or early 2009.
