PITTSBURGH -- Three peregrine falcon chicks were banded Tuesday after hatching last month on top of the Cathedral of Learning on the University of Pittsburgh's campus.

"Hopefully when we put a band on these birds, sometime down the line, they will breed somewhere or turn up somewhere, and somebody will be able to identify where it's from," said Dr. Todd Katzner of the Aviary.
Dorothy is the female parent at the chicks' nest in Oakland, according to the aviary.
The male peregrine, Erie, isn't at the nest any more, so he may have been replaced by another male.
Dorothy and Erie fledged four chicks that were all banded in May 2007.
Erie fought off an invading male in March 2007, the aviary said.
