PITTSBURGH -- To celebrate Earth Day, the Mattress Factory Art Museum on Sampsonia Way in Pittsburgh will hold a huge party on Saturday called "Ecolution."For 30 years, the Mattress Factory has been a magnet for modern art, outwardly featuring the odd, extreme and behind the scenes pieces, showcasing the green from the daylight-filled renovated old buildings to the earth-friendly item-filled gift shop.Saturday's eco-friendly party will start at 7 p.m. and will include a VIP Reception, organic food and cocktails, music by DJ Soy Sos, an eco-fashion show, Elements performance by Bodiography and Lady J. Fire Eater and a Mindful Marketplace benefiting the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy.
For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.PittsburghEarthDay.com.Also, the museum is going paperless when it comes to memberships.“It just makes sense to have a paperless membership, because the reason for a membership is actually donating money for the art rather than getting, you know, 20 pieces of mail a year,” said membership director Lindsay O’Leary.O’Leary said if 100 or 200 people sign up for the new paperless green membership, she estimates about 12 trees could be saved.“We're just one nonprofit in the city,” she said. “Think of if other nonprofits, other businesses, how much actual impact that is.”“It's really the first public initiative that we are kind of showcasing in order to take the philosophy that we've been incorporating over the last 30 years and passing that on to our membership,” said Jeff Inscho of the Mattress Factory.Members will also save money. The paperless membership will cost about $20 less and will include the same benefits as the others.
