A Penn Borough man is accused of abusing a 12-year-old girl for more than a year and possessing child pornography.

Court documents show the investigation began in January when the girl reported Michael Edward Wise, 48, took hundreds of nude photos of her for more than a year at his Scott Street trailer home.

Police said the girl's school nurse went to authorities, telling them the girl had a radical change in behavior over the last year. The nurse said she was convinced something was wrong.

Police said Wise would watch the 12-year-old girl every other weekend. The girl said Wise told her he was forwarding the pictures to a modeling agency, but that she first needed to practice.

Police said time and time again, Wise would photograph and video tape the girl, often in the nude or in lingerie. Each time she would return for a visit, police said Wise would tell her the pictures were fuzzy, so he had to take the photos again.

Police said Wise didn't want his wife to see the pictures, so he used his computer to transfer the digital images from a camera to a disk. When detectives searched his home, they said they found more than 1,000 other images of child pornography they believe Wise downloaded from the Internet.

Wise is charged with more than 26 counts ranging from possession of child pornography to indecent assault of a child. He is currently being held in the Westmoreland County Prison on $50,000 bond.

A hearing is set for Wednesday.
