2008 PITTSBURGH -- The fomrer St Francis Central Hospital was reduced to a heap of rubble after it was imploded Saturday afternoon.Crews used explosives to bring down the building on the site of a new arena for the Pittsburgh Penguins.It took only twelve seconds for the 10-story building to collapse after the blast.Crews had planned to implode the building Saturday morning but poor weather conditions delayed it until 2:17 Saturday afternoon.The hospital and several other buildings have been demolished to make way for construction of the $290 million arena which will be located across Centre Avenue from Mellon Arena.
