Forty-two vinyl billboards in Pittsburgh could be turned into digital versions. Lamar Advertising filed the permits late Tuesday.

The forms were filed one day before the planned introduction in City Council of legislation that would require a vote on any proposed sign replacements.

The billboards to be transformed include nine downtown, four in Oakland, three in the Strip District, two on Mount Washington and the rest scattered throughout the city.
