POSTED: 9:23 am EST March 4,
2008
Channel 4 Action News reporter Bob Mayo is covering the trial of Dr. Cyril Wecht at the federal courthouse in downtown Pittsburgh. He will be posting blogs as often as possible from court. These are the raw notes that were sent on his mobile device.
Wecht Day 19 - March 4, 2008 8:30 AM Judge Schwab came on the bench briefly to announce that juror number 7 was advised by her doctor to go to a hospital emergency room for a precautionary chest x-ray. She is the juror who the judge said yesterday had shown up for Monday's session despite feeling sick. The judge advised attorneys on both sides to confer about how to deal with the situation. There are six alternates in addition to the twelve jurors. The first alternate could be seated, if needed. There was also an exchange between Judge Schwab and defense attorney Jerry McDevitt concerning a filing the judge is requesting of the defense. I'll have more on that in a future post.8:48 AM The jury and judge have entered the courtroom. The judge asks when the government will respond to dockets 784 and 786. The answer is by 5 o'clock today. The judge says that juror number seven is getting care for the condition they observed yesterday. He says its unwise to sit here hour by hour or half day by half day, so they're going to recess for the day. He says they'll try to pin down her condition, make a determination about her status, and return tomorrow. Court recesses for the day.
