The Port Authority's current contract with its labor union is set to expire in June, and negotiations on a new contract for transit employees are expected to start this month.

Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato ordered the Port Authority to cut costs in the contract, which could make getting a new deal fairly difficult.

The Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce sent its members a letter, inviting them to attend a planning session at the end of March and discuss the possibility of the Port Authority contract expiring and the current level of transit service being affected.

The Port Authority has expressed optimism that it will be able to reach a deal without a work stoppage.
