I-70 Reopens In Washington Co. After Big Rig CrashPOSTED: 4:35 pm EST February 12,
2008 WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. -- Accidents throughout Washington County kept emergency crews busy Tuesday, including a multi-tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 70 near Bentleyville. The crash shut down the westbound lanes of I-70 for most of Tuesday. A tractor-trailer slid off the road, hit an embankment and then bounced back onto the highway, causing a chain reaction crash involving a total of four big rigs."I was going about 35, 40 mph and couldn't stop," said trucker John Williams. "Slipped on the ice and ran into the guy in front of me."No one was injured in the crash, but traffic stretched for miles as hazmat crews cleaned up nearly 300 gallons of diesel fuel that spilled onto the road.Weather and icy conditions were also to blame for a crash in the northbound lanes of Interstate 79 between the Laboratory and Lone Pine exits.A woman and her two young children were in a minivan when she said she lost control, hit an embankment and rolled. No one was injured in the crash.
