Hospital Demo Street Closures Promise Pens Traffic TroubleUPDATED: 6:18 pm EST February 13, 2008 PITTSBURGH -- The former Saint Francis Central Hospital, a longtime fixture of the Hill District, is set to come down to make way for the Pittsburgh Penguins' new arena.Eastbound Centre Avenue is being shut down between Washington Place and Crawford Street. Also, Colwell Street is closed behind the demolition site. The restrictions will be in place all week.Fans attending the Penguins-Bruins game on Wednesday night at Mellon Arena are urged to arrive early because of what will likely be heavy traffic congestion. Two of the three westbound lanes on Centre Avenue will be switched to accommodate eastbound traffic from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., so drivers can get to the arena parking lots. But Pittsburgh police suggest finding parking spaces below Washington Place, instead of parking in the arena lots.Demolition of the former hospital was supposed to take place last weekend. The work hit a snag, forcing a delay. Related Links: More Allegheny County NewsGet RSS Headlines | Free Desktop Alert Copyright 2008 by ThePittsburghChannel. All rights reserved.
