Urban living is on the rise, but it's not just the younger crowd rediscovering downtown Pittsburgh.

Many see the downtown housing boom as sign of a younger Pittsburgh taking over. But surprisingly, it's a more mature crowd moving in.

Most downtown denizens are under 50, but more mature people are buying into the concept of city living and for the same reasons.

"I think the people who move downtown tend to be a little more pioneering," said Eve Picker of We Do Property. "They want something a little different out of life."

Something different is what Jerry and Jane Voros found. They recently moved into an apartment along Penn Avenue.

"We walk to restaurants, and we are going to cultural events, and we've always done that, but it's so much easier now," the couple said.

Families are also finding access to the arts and entertainment appealing.

Tammy Procter runs her own studio and lives with her 16-year-old daughter.

"After living abroard, I wanted her to carry on having more diversity in her life, because that was a great experience for her," said Proctor.

Proctor grew up in Bethel Park but said downtown Pittsburgh offers her daughter some distinct advantages.

"You are artistically inclined, especially," she said. "There is a lot going on for kids living in the city, and I think more kids are artistically inclined in this age."
