Call 4 Action: Get Scoop On HDTVs, Chips, Beer Before Super Bowl SundayPOSTED: 5:06 pm EST January 30,
2008 While the New England Patriots and New York Gants prepare for the Super Bowl this Sunday, many people are hunting for high-definition televisions.According to Consumer Reports, an HDTV is a little bit better when it comes to watching sports, especially football. The two major types are LCD and plasma, and both are extremely similar. But Consumer Reports said plasmas are slightly better for faster-moving sports like football, because the action is less blurry. If you're looking to buy one before Sunday, the magazine gives its highest score to Panasonic's big plasmas, followed by LG."Panasonic is just your No. 1-rated plasma TV," said Gary Peitropola of Laketron TV and Appliance. "Picture quality, and I think a lot of it goes to the service dependability of the TV."Experts advise that consumers should get an HDTV that fits the room. Picture quality suffers if viewers sit too close to a big screen, they said. And what's a Super Bowl without the suds?Consumer Reports rated beer, too, based on taste, cost and calories. It gives its best buy rating to Busch Light, Natural Light and Keystone Light. For potato chips, the magazine's top score went to Original Lays potato chips, just ahead of Multigrain Tostitos. For microwave popcorn, Consumer Reports likes Orville Redenbacher's light butter, followed by Act II.For more information, visit www.ConsumerReports.org.
