A Pittsburgh-area store that has been a trailblazer when it comes to being green provides customers with safe, nontoxic, eco-friendly building products for your home.

Artemis on Butler Street in Lawrenceville is an environmental building materials store where everything is eco-friendly from the lava tiles to the bamboo-paneled walls.

"This is a piece of bark that someone gave us from a cork tree," said Artemis owner Linda Metropulos. "They harvest this every eight years, and they are not cutting the tree down."

Just like the cork, everything in Artemis is from a renewable or sustainable resource, including glass tiles, river rock mats, wall panels made from palm fronds and bamboo.

It was five years ago that Artemis' owners, Metropulos and Janice Donatelli, saw a need for green building materials in the Pittsburgh region. So, the two decided to take a chance with the store and said it has paid off.

They said customers travel to the store from New York, Ohio and beyond to find the latest environmentally-friendly products.

At Artemis, the bottom line is build, but be earth-friendly.
