"Lawrenceville: History in the remaking" is a message people will now see when they drive into the city neighborhood.

Crews have placed the new, 7 feet tall, colorful metal signs in strategic locations to welcome people to Lawrenceville.

It's part of an effort to create and promote an identity that reinforces both the historical significance and the creative rebirth of one of Pittsburgh's oldest and largest neighborhoods.

Custom benches and trash cans featuring the new identity are also at the locations.

On Friday, town officials and Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl held a ribbon cutting ceremony on the corner of 34th Street and Penn Avenue to commemorate the new signs.
