Police said a 16-year-old boy brought a knife to Greensburg Salem High School after threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend in a poem posted on his MySpace.com page.

Greensburg police Chief Wally Lyons said the threats were included in a poem titled "Why Would This Girl I Love Carry Me to Murder."

The poem read, "I went to the hardware store to buy a four foot axe… Imma put it in her back. We both had our chances, I never gave up, but now, because of what she did, she's *expletive* out of luck."

Police said the 17-year-old girl saw the poem and told school officials.

"They had been dating for about six months and broke up," said Lyons. "Apparently, he didn't want to break up. He kept harassing her, bothering her, trying to get back together. When she refused, he wrote this poem on his MySpace page."

Police said they charged the boy on Monday after school officials found a knife in his backpack.

The boy was charged with making terroristic threats and possessing a weapon on school property. He is in the Juvenile Detention Center in Westmoreland County.

Officials also suspended him from school. Police have not identified him because he's being charged as a juvenile.

"We don't know what would have happened had this not been brought to the school district's attention and the authorities attention," said Lyons.

Authorities credit the girl for alerting authorities as soon as she sensed danger.
