Pittsburgh Soldier Killed In Iraq By Electrical Accident Buried

UPDATED: 2:14 pm EST January 11, 2008

An Army Special Forces soldier from the Pittsburgh area who suffered cardiac arrest due to an electrical shock was laid to rest on Friday in Washington County.

Staff Sgt. Ryan Maseth died last week in Baghdad. His noncombat death is being considered an accident, possibly caused by a faulty water pump that carried an electrical charge through the water, according to Army officials.

Maseth was assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group at Fort Campbell, Ky. The 24-year-old Shaler Area High School graduate was serving his second deployment to Iraq after enlisting in June 2001.

He was buried at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Cecil Township.
