Charges Dropped Against Man Who Shot Alleged Would-Be Robber

POSTED: 3:46 pm EST January 2, 2008
UPDATED: 12:35 pm EST January 3, 2008

A would-be victim who fought back during an attempted robbery at his East Third Street home in Langeloth, Washington County, is no longer charged with attempted homicide.

On Wednesday, all charges were dropped against Eraldo Iannitelli, 48, and his alleged 16-year-old robber because nobody would testify against each other at a preliminary hearing.

On Sept. 1, Iannitelli claimed he was attacked outside his home by two teenagers wearing masks, carrying a baseball bat and BB gun, police said.

Iannitelli said the two teens demanded money.

After being hit several times, Iannitelli said he reached into his car, grabbed a shotgun and fired once, wounding the 16-year-old in the back.

The boy who was shot lost a kidney but is doing OK now, attorneys said.

Police said he was to have been charged with robbery and aggravated assault, but those charges were dropped.
