EIGHTY-FOUR, Pa. -- The Washington Area Humane Society was not voted to win an online contest to get an expensive makeover.Visitors to the ZooToo.com Web site had been supporting the shelter by earning points with their clicks. At an expo in Florida on Thursday, the 17 finalists were pared down to three, and the Washington shelter wasn't one of them.
"If there's another shelter out there in more need than we are, they should have it," said Lorie Schooley of the WAHS. "Because we're all in this together. And my blessings, and God bless them if someone else gets it."After starting at No. 181 in the contest rankings, Washington Area was in first place by more than 800,000 points before the midnight deadline last month. The winning shelter gets $1 million for a makeover.Although it didn’t win, the WAHS did receive a $5,000 check for getting the most votes of all the shelters on the site.
