Carnegie Mellon University has been wowing the world with high-tech innovation for years, and their effort to build a self-driving car is no exception.

"Boss" is a Chevrolet Tahoe with a few modifications. The vehicle can drive itself, navigating around other cars while following traffic rules.

This week, CMU's Tartan Racing team earned a spot in the Darpa Urban Challenge finals. The challenge is a Pentagon contest aimed at developing technology to automate more military vehicles.

The winning team will earn $2 million.
