As work continues on the new Pittsburgh Children's Hospital, administrators gave a glimpse into the hospital's future.

The new hospital campus in the city's Lawrenceville neighborhood won't open until May 2009, but doctors explained how the new facility will help cater to rising patient numbers and patients' families.

"Because of the sizing of the rooms we've done now, their needs will be met and they'll be comfortable in the rooms with their kids during their illness," said Roger Oxendale, president of the hospital.

He said there would also be a fitness center for staff and patients' families. He touted a new day care center for staff, and child care for siblings of patients.

Oxendale said the centerpiece of the new children's hospital will be a huge atrium that also will serve as an activity center and movie theater.
