Call 4 Action: AG Wants To Hear From Angry Hannah Montana FansPOSTED: 6:10 pm EDT October 1,
2007 PITTSBURGH -- Tens of thousands of parents across the Pittsburgh region are angry that they were unable to buy tickets over the weekend for the Hannah Montana concert at Mellon Arena.Last week, Call 4 Action reporter Aaron Saykin said scalpers apparently had an unfair advantage, with special software that allowed them to cut the line before tickets went on sale on the Internet.Tickets for the January concert are still available, but it's going to cost dearly -- and that's exactly how the scalpers want it. Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett wants to hear from anyone who was shut out of the ticket-buying process."I was online at 9:45 and so was my neighbor. At 10:02, you could not get any tickets," said Michelle Bearer, of Ross Township.Minutes later, tickets began appearing on auction Web sites like eBay. Most of the tickets were selling for between $300 and $500 apiece.Montana, whose real name is Miley Cyrus, stars on a Disney Channel television show. Her concerts have sold out so quickly that two states are investigating. For the Pittsburgh concert, Ticketmaster limited sales per household and to buyers with local ZIP codes.Corbett is urging consumers to file complaints with his office, including anyone who bought a fan club membership and thought it would get them tickets."That was the opportunity to join the fan club, so you would have an opportunity to purchase them on a pre-sale basis," Bearer said.Complaints can be filed at www.attorneygeneral.gov.Other fans have complained that the Ticketmaster computers at local Giant Eagle stores suddenly went down after tickets went on sale. A representative told Call 4 Action that Giant Eagle was looking into those complaints.Ticketmaster is suing the company that sells software to scalpers, and said it's trying to come up with a system to prevent the situation from happening.
