Police in Kentucky arrested three people on Thursday accused of dressing as ninjas and holding up a Pittsburgh-area gas station Saturday morning using a samurai sword.

According to Northern Regional police Chief Robert Amann, the arrests were made in Shelbyville, Ky.

Police believe two women -- one with a dagger, and the other carrying the sword -- entered a Sunoco station in the 5600 block of Route 8 at about 3 a.m. on Saturday in Richland Township.

Police said the robbers tied the clerk up and stole an undetermined amount of cash, $2,000 worth of cigarettes and lottery tickets valued at between $100 and $1,000.

According to Amann, Vanessa Waisbrot-Yobst, 18, James Riley, 20, and a 17-year-old female, all of Allison Park, were en route to California when they went to a motel in Shelbyville after their vehicle broke down along Interstate 64.

Amann said the Yobst turned herself in to police and told them the other two were at the nearby motel.

Amann said police don't know which of the three were the ninja robbers, however, he said, police believe all three were involved in the holdup.

He said all three would be charged with robbery, simple assault, unlawful restraint and conspiracy.

Amann said the Allegheny County district attorney's office has begun efforts to have three extradited back to Pennsylvania.

Police said the clerk was not harmed during the robbery and is OK.
