An education program in the south side occurred Saturday on Carey Way after a citizens group called Graffiti Watch painted over several garages in an effort to clean up their neighborhood.

Just as important, Graffiti Watch said it tried to educate business owners and community members.

They said they know graffiti can be frustrating, but they said they want to make a statement that they are going to take care of their community.

"What we're trying to do is make a statement that this is our community, and we want people to participate and be a part of it. But it's not OK to go and paint on someone's property without their permission and paint on their walls," Graffiti Watch member Steve Root said.

Graffiti Watch has information available for community members about how to remove graffiti and the proper channels to go through to report it.
