North Siders Ponder Casino's EffectsResidents Hope To Downplay Casino's Ill EffectsPOSTED: 7:37 pm EDT September 15,
2007 PITTSBURGH -- Officials said that while construction planning continues on the new North Shore casino, neighbors look to the future.Residents around the proposed site said they are wondering what will happen to their neighborhood after the casino moves in.They said they anticipate the hundreds of jobs that the majestic star casino will bring, but are wary of the social problems that could continue to thrive around the casino."Obviously there's been an outbreak of violence in the community that has touched all of us, even me personally," said Khari Mosley, of Pittsburgh United. "In my personal circle, people are very concerned about that and we want to think of proactive ways that we can deal with the social problems on the north side and we can negate the negative impacts that a casino can have on a neighborhood."About 500 residents were surveyed about what role they envision the casino playing on the north side, but the results have not yet been released.
