WASHINGTON, Pa. -- A judge on Wednesday dismissed charges against a female caregiver who was accused of raping a man for whom she was caring.Alyson Bush, 41, of Washington, Pa., appeared Wednesday for her preliminary hearing on charges of rape of a mentally disabled person, institutional sexual assault and related offenses.Donegal Township police Chief Ethan Ward said the man's mother contacted them after her 32-year-old son told her that Bush had been forcing him to have sex with her.
Ward said the man has mental capacity of a kindergarten student and required round-the-clock care at his Claysville home after suffering a head injury when he was hit by a car two years ago.But a judge determined the man to be incompetent and dismissed the charges against Bush since the entire case was based on what the victim told his family and officials.Bush worked for Northwestern Human Services and was one of several caregivers looking after the man.At the hearing on Wednesday, three co-workers of Bush testified, saying her relationship with the man was more of a boyfriend-girlfriend one. They said they noticed the relationship was inappropriate and that Bush would typically stay at the man's home long after her shift was over.
