Head Of Port Authority North Shore Connector Project To 'Retire'POSTED: 5:06 pm EDT July 27,
2007 PITTSBURGH -- Work on the North Shore Connector is under way, but the person overseeing the project is apparently being forced out.So, what does this mean for the $400 million project? While Henry Nutbrown, 62, said he is officially retiring, he said he would still be on the sidelines during the project and the people now taking over are fully capable."I've got a good team in place," said Nutbrown. "I've acted more as a coach here than a executive that dictated every decision, and I built a good team, and I've got every confidence that team is going to carry forth the project."The $435 million project will not stop with Nutbrown's departure, according to Port Authority officials.Nutbrown became the latest Port Authority cutback, a refocusing according to CEO Steve Bland."It's a changing priority period for the authority," said Bland. "I mean, we don't have a massive capital expansion plan, so the focus has to be on back to basics and getting service in order."Although Nutbrown is being asked to step down for the change, he will retire with full benefits after nine years on the job"It's a retirement," he said. "It's a benefit that I will be able to partake after the layoff that doesn't necessarily mean that I am going in to retirement."Nutbrown will work at the Port Authority through the end of August.
