  • Troops Benefit From Local Web Site, Online Flower Sales

    POSTED: 12:49 pm EDT July 4, 2007

Three years ago, Operation Troop Appreciation began in the office in Kristen Holloway's home.

That Web-based organization continues to raise money and gather supplies to send to men and women stationed overseas in the U.S. armed forces.

"Support from this city alone has allowed us to impact over 25,000 troops from across the nation who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan," Holloway said. "I have never seen such an outpouring of support and generosity like we have from the people of Pittsburgh."

Now, Holloway has launched another way to raise money for soldiers: buying flowers online at Giroses.com.

"Plug in the promotional code OTA07 and get an automatic discount of $25," Holloway said. "Every time that promotional code is used, OTA gets a $5 donation."

She thinks it's an easy way to let the troops know that their sacrifices are appreciated.

"To know that we truly impacted their lives and we have made such an impact on them and they'll never forget the people that have made these gifts possible, that makes it all worth it," Holloway said.
