2007 PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates aren't happy with last month's approval of a master plan for PITG Gaming's North Shore casino.Both franchises filed an appeal against the casino on Thursday, which was the deadline to file.In a written statement, Pirates CEO Kevin McClatchy said the appeal was filed "in order to protect the interests of our fans." Read the full statement from the Pirates Read the full statement from the Steelers In last month's meeting with the City Planning Commission, which touched on the Steelers' concern with game-day traffic issues, Steelers President Art Rooney said that the master plan was "inadequate."Rooney also showed his disappointment in a written statement last month, saying, "PITG's lack of cooperation and the lack of a willingness to take responsibility for doing things right leaves us with ongoing concern for how this project will be done."Last month, the Carnegie Science Center said it also had plans to file an appeal. But on Thursday, the center announced a tentative agreement with the casino.The Science Center's concerns included pedestrian safety, lighting and the ability to get school buses on and off its property.Detroit businessman Don Barden was awarded a license in December to build the Majestic Star Casino on the North Shore.Barden has not commented on the appeals by the Steelers and Pirates.
