DEP Warns Wal-Mart Of More Landslide Potential On Rt. 65

Worried that Route 65 could end up covered in tons of earth, the state Department of Environmental Protection has given Wal-Mart until Friday to come up with a plan to address the concerns at its construction site in Kilbuck Township.

The work site -- at the former location of Dixmont State Hospital -- was rocked by a slide that sent a half-million cubic yards of dirt and debris onto the highway on Sept. 19.

Monitors show the ground is moving again and water tables are rising, WTAE Channel 4's Ari Hait reported Thursday.

Wal-Mart spokesman James Davis said the company is reviewing the situation and will respond to the DEP's request.

Wal-Mart took control of the site in March because the DEP was not satisfied that developer Kilbuck Properties was doing enough to prevent another landslide at the construction site.
