DEP: Wal-Mart Can Continue Work At Route 65 Landslide SitePOSTED: 12:07 pm EDT May 16,
2007 KILBUCK TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Wal-Mart has been given the go-ahead to resume working on the site of a major landslide in Kilbuck Township along Route 65 in September.WTAE Channel 4's news exchange partners at the Tribune-Review reported the state Department of Environmental Protection transferred a suspended permit to the retail giant, so work can begin immediately to address storm water runoff issues and make the still-unstable site safer."This will enable Wal-Mart to begin work to stabilize the site and to maintain the erosion and sedimentation controls," said DEP spokesperson Helen Humphreys. "Any future development by Wal-Mart or any other entity will require a new permit application. They'll have to go through the process again."Wal-Mart officials are suggesting a possible target date for the stabilization of the hillside by Oct. 31 but said if that deadline is not met, it has a contingency plan for the winter. The landslide closed Route 65 for more than a week in September while crews worked to clear the debris.. One lane of the highway is still closed. Previous Stories:
