Meadows Temporary Casino To Open SoonPOSTED: 2:57 pm EDT May 4,
2007 MEADOW LANDS, Pa. -- Next month, the Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Washington County will open the doors to their new temporary casino, which will be western Pennsylvania's first slots parlor. It will remain open until the real casino is built. On Friday, 350 slot machines shipped from Nevada were delivered to the casino.Members of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board stood by to make sure all machines were accounted for."Each machine has a serial number, and it's now our asset, and wherever that machine goes, it is connected to us at the Meadows Racetrack," said Meadows Vice President Mike Graninger. "So if somebody steals the machine, they can trace it back to us, and they can investigate how it got out of our control, and that's how they do it."Friday marked the final shipment for the temporary casino. More than 1,400 slot machines are already at the site, but the gaming board does not allow cameras inside the facility. So far, the Meadows have spent $52 million on the machines and the 82,000-square-foot temporary facility that includes a 300-seat restaurant, lounge and live entertainment.Officials said they expect to spend another $225 million on the permanent site. The temporary casino is slated to open at the end of May. The official Racetrack and Casino are set to open in about a year and a half. Related Links: More County NewsGet RSS | E-Mail Alerts Copyright 2007 by ThePittsburghChannel. All rights reserved.
