Super Bowl XL's most valuable player, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward, surprised students at Stewartsville Elementary in North Huntingdon on Friday.

Cecilia Koncerak is a first grader there whose grandfather won the Take Hines Ward To School contest as part of a program designed to educate children on nutrition and exercise.

"You have to be able to relate to kids and get them to understand how important it is, any speeches that you give, because kids look up to us as roll models," said Ward. "They see their favorite player go into a school, some of them go crazy a little bit."

"It was the day of a lifetime," said Principal Doreen Harris. "It was so exciting. We kept it a secret to keep the hype down, but it got on the news. It was a memory for 500 people."

Hines told the students to eat their vegetables and to get plenty of exercise.
