Councilwoman Won't Resign; Waives Hearing In Theft, Conspiracy Case

PITTSBURGH -- A Pittsburgh councilwoman charged with theft and criminal conspiracy said she will not resign from office.Twanda Carlisle, 48, waived her right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday morning. She's accused of funneling more than $43,000 to herself through payments she made to various consultants.According to a criminal complaint, 80 deposits were made to Carlisle's personal and campaign bank accounts, 63 of them made in cash. It was not immediately clear what may have been done with the money.
Carlisle attended Tuesday's City Council meeting and said she was elected to represent her district, which she intends to do."I'm on Pittsburgh City Council, and I'm representing council District 9, and council District 9 needs a representative," said Carlisle. "As an elected official, where else would I be? I'm representing council District 9 and the city of Pittsburgh. I was elected to this job. I'm going to do this job to the best of my ability and keep moving forward. And I thank you all today."
