UPDATED: 9:30 am EDT April 6, 2007

A teacher who is the son of the school district president had sex with a teenage female student at his apartment, police said.

David M. Costanza, 28, a social studies teacher at Ambridge Area High School and junior varsity boys' basketball coach, was charged Wednesday with statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and corruption of minors.

A 15-year-old girl told police she and Costanza had sexual contact twice in his apartment in March, police said. A family member of the girl first told police of the allegations and they then talked with her, police said.

Costanza, of Baden, is the son of Ambridge Area School District board president Charles Costanza.

Charles Costanza submitted a resignation letter on Wednesday night, according to the Beaver County Times.

The resignation must be approved by the board, which is scheduled to meet April 11.
