Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said he might claim the trip he took to New York City as a campaign contribution from Penguins owner Ron Burkle.

But WTAE Channel 4 Action News reporter Bob Mayo said the Ravenstahl Campaign will now pay the mayor's way instead.

The decision by the Ravenstahl Campaign comes after Gov. Ed Rendell's office laid down the law for a staffer who joined the mayor on that private jet trip.

That person joined the mayor as a friend and not in any official capacity.

Ravenstahl's campaign now says it will reimburse Burkle for the cost of the midnight trip on Burkle's private Boeing 757 jet.

That follows word that Rendell's office is having Kevin Kinross do the same thing. Kinross, a staffer in Rendell's Pittsburgh office, joined the mayor on the trip.

He's also been Ravenstahl's friend for more than a decade.

Rendell spokesman Chuck Ardo said, "'Kevin made a mistake in judgment in getting on that plane. He went as a friend of Luke without thinking that he is also and always a representative of the governor."

Kinross was directed to write a check, paying Burkle for the private jet ride

The Ravenstahl Campaign said Burkle valued Ravenstahl's free ride on the private jet at $1,055.

The governor's office had estimated the cost of a first-class ticket from Pittsburgh to New York to be $1,400 for Kinross' reimbursement.
