Firefighters were called to the scene of a house fire in Mount Lebanon Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out on Craigview Drive near Sylvandell Drive at about 8 a.m. (See Map)

Authorities said the family who lives in the house was on vacation at the time.

According to crews, firefighters discovered the blaze originated in the basement Tuesday night, worked its way to the kitchen but burned itself out.

"Generally, the fire will break out a window so that it can start to get oxygen, but the fire starts to starve, because it can't get enough oxygen," said Nick Sohyda of the Mount Lebanon Fire Department. "But everything in the house is melted. The kitchen table. Significant fire, but it self-extinguished before it could get worse."

The fire marshal is investigating to determine what started the fire.
